Every Etsy seller knows a few tips surrounding keywords – the ones everyone share in the Etsy forums. . . the ones everyone keeps recycling from the same blog articles . . . the ones Etsy’s seller-help admin keep saying over and over. . . think like a customer . . . check the Etsy search bar . . . look at your shop stats . . . duplicate them in the title and the tags . . . Look at Google’s Keyword tool. blah blah blah!

If you do what everyone else is doing, you have ZERO advantage to make your listing stand out from the crowd. I’ve invested hours upon hours upon hours researching keywords on Etsy – so you don’t have to.

I’m approaching 5 months of looking at the nuances of search terms, analyzing keyword search stats from a wide variety of Etsy sellers, and building the ultimate Etsy keyword tool that is unique to the needs of Etsy sellers.

If you want to do a job with excellence, you’ve got to have the right tool for the job – The Ultimate Etsy Keyword Tool.

First, we “Built Strong Keyword Foundations for our Etsy Shop & Products – Step 1” by entering some key information from our Etsy shop stats and generating a keyword report for our entire shop and individual products so we knew our baseline and could more easily identify ways that we could improve keyword performance in our Etsy shop to multiply our impressions, views, and sales. These reports helped us identify our best “seed” keywords to begin Step 2.

Then, we “Upgraded our Etsy Keywords through Identification, Ideation & Mapping – Step 2” by using 13 ideation methods (some common and some never discussed within the Etsy community). From this process we created a list of 100 potential search terms (keywords) to use in our product(s) that were not just “whims of the imagination”, but rooted in real customer intent through various applications available for free (if you know where to look).

Next, we calculated “How to Use the Keywords Many Search for yet Few Can Resist – Step 3” by gathering 3 key pieces of data surrounding each of the 100 potential search terms generated in Step 2. From these 3 data points, we were able to use 6 unique filters in a customizable formula that we could customize according to our shop’s unique keyword desires and goals. This formula then put logic behind the choice of the keywords that we use in a listing so we are using “winner” and not “loser” keywords. We also applied a simple listing technique with these keywords to multiply our search impressions, views, and sales – seriously common sense, but overlooked 99.9% of the time.

Finally, we are going to take things to an even higher plane of excellence. The first 3 steps will already make your Etsy shop have a large advantage over other Etsy sellers that just “choose keywords at whim”, “passing thought”, or “mimic their competitors”. In Step 4, we’re going to add some additional functionality to The Ultimate Etsy Keyword Tool Spreadsheet that is going to help put your keyword selection over the top of AWESOME!

I’ve identified some mathematical techniques to identify keywords with higher than normal “user intent” . . . you know, the classic advice of “thinking like a customer”. I’ve come up with 4 mathematical trends where you can actually see the data showing you that a keyword has high user intent or not. Using these keywords will give your product a significant selling advantage in the marketplace.

We’ll also look at discovering seasonal keyword add-ons and phrases that will allow you to boost impressions, views, and sales for your different listings throughout the year.

We’ve got a ton to cover here and I can’t wait for you to start applying these tips, so here we go Thrivers!
